Pet Sematary by Stephen King
4.0

Pet Sematary was not what I expected and that's neither a good thing or bad thing. In classic King style, I was hooked from the very first page and found the entirety of this book compulsively readable. I just did not want to put this book down. Even when I knew the danger was coming, even when I knew I wouldn't be able to stomach it, I just wanted to read and read and read.

I am continuously impressed with the characters that King creates and how he makes me care for each and every one of them. I think that is a major reason why I can breeze through a book this size that doesn't really have any action until the 70% mark. I was never bored, I was never tired of the seemingly needless details...I just ate this whole shit up.

That being said, wow. This book was rough. It was brutal and gut-wrenching. I don't know if it's a book I could stomach rereading. I was surprised by the hopeful ending of The Shining and was a little caught off guard with the bleak ending of Pet Sematary.

This book leaves me with one message...I'm very glad I am childfree by choice. I don't ever want to experience what Louis and Rachel went through.
