"Razorblade Tears" is my second S.A. Cosby novel, and though I think I preferred "All the Sinners Bleed" I was still gripped by this book.
Cosby does a really great job at composing complex, layered, deeply flawed but still likable characters. Ike and Buddy Lee, our two main characters, are both ruthless and homophobic (kind of former) criminals; but in the pursuit of justice for their murdered sons, I found myself charmed by and totally rooting for them. And the story really wouldn't have worked without that, because in classic Cosby fashion the violence was brutal and pretty unrelenting and you really needed something positive to cling to. I found the explanation of the murders a little hard to follow at times, but I do think the story wrapped up nicely and I appreciated how Cosby connected the characters throughout the course of the book.
I've learned that you have to be in the right headspace to pick up one of S.A. Cosby's books, but when you do you can expect a fast-paced, intense ride that keeps you guessing and stressing until the end.
