The Dare by Elle Kennedy

emotional funny hopeful lighthearted medium-paced

3.5

Taylor is a self-conscious girl who is way out of her league in a sorority full of mean girls. Conor is a seemingly carefree guy with a lot of hidden insecurities. When they find themselves in a middle of a game to prove some stuck-up kids wrong, they wind up forming a real bond. I love that Elle Kennedy decided to venture away from the model-thin female leads with impossible bodies that are usually featured in romance books. This book has her classic witty banter, steamy relationships, and difficult backstories. However, this book adds more vulnerability that has been lacking from the Briar U series. My only complaint is that this vulnerability feels too little too late. Taylor, though a different body type, is still stunningly beautiful and wealthy. Though Conor comes from a poor childhood, he now lives in a mansion in California. But, let's be honest, no one is reading this series for groundbreaking insight into the real world. The books are a beautiful chance for escapism, and The Dare is a must read for YA romance fans.
