Long Live the Pumpkin Queen: Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas by Shea Ernshaw

fast-paced

3.5

It’s a delight to have a book based in the world of TNBC. It’s my favorite movie and Sally is one of my top favorite characters. Overall, it’s an entertaining story when you separate it from what we know about TNBC and the characters. I did enjoy my time reading this and it kept me entertained from start to finish. It was nice seeing some side characters I love from the movie.

With that said, I know the author says in the thank you section about this being a reimagining Sally, but it didn’t feel like that Sally I fell in love with. The plot of her having long lost parents felt not necessary. I wasn’t a fan of her being from Dream Town with parents who lost her. The whole point is that she was created in a lab by Dr. Finkelstein. Also, Dr. Finkelstein’s backstory of longing for a daughter so he took Sally while in Dream Land? I was very meh on that.

If you want a fun story to read within the world of TNBC then I say give it a shot!
