Fighting Words by Leonarda Carranza and illustrated by Erika Medina [Annick Press #gifted]
In Fighting Words, Ali and his cousin get into a fight when Ama accidentally rips his book. Upset, he yells and his angry words explode out of him and attack Ama. Ali finds out that once his words are out, he has no more control over them as they attack and hurt those around him. With the help of their abuelita, Ali sets off to try to capture his angry words before they hurt others and finds out that the only way to do so is to resolve the conflicts in a way that does not deliberately hurt others. This is a story that will help young readers as they begin to understand their emotions more and learn conflict resolution.
