All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque

To make a quick review:

If you have ever wondered what goes on in the head of a veteran or current soldier, and I'f you have ever wondered what the chaos of war is like and want to read about it, READ THIS BOOK. It is on many lists of "books to read before you die" for a reason!

The book is written by a German veteran that fought in WW1 and it shows.

The description of battle is eloquently done and the scenes that plays out in your head will rival that of The Thin Red Line or Saving Private Ryan.

The existential and slightly nihilistic emotions and thoughts that one can only guess the young soldiers had fighting in the trenches are deeply moving and brought me to tears multiple times.

If you are thinking about reading it, do so.
