i struggled with this one. i got a little over halfway through and really started considering dnfing it, but since it’s the book that season three of the show is based on i pushed through and finished it. this was the first reacher novel that i have ever read and i think my review is based entirely on personal preference because the story itself was good and i enjoyed the mystery aspect of it, but i really could not get past how much i hated the writing style. every sentence felt fragmented and the dialogue left a lot to be desired. i wasn’t a fan of the romance aspect of it either; i felt that duffy was written a bit poorly and could’ve benefited from being treated more like the professional she is. i think my favorite thing about this book was the way the fight scenes were written, namely how the author described the physical effects of injuries. it was much appreciated attention to detail. i have a few other teacher novels, but if i ever read them, it will have to be a while from now because that was a rough read.
