Witchmark

The book is competent written and the worldbuilding is smoothly developed as to not come as infodump nor break the flow of the story. The problem is that the flow is terrible: everything feels rushed and the character react tp the murder, the discovery, the loss of his secret identity (which was barely alluded and not given enough time to give it weight) like it was going through a list. His emotions last seconds and then jump to the next scene. I dont know if his acquiescence to his worst nightmares because it would cause a scene is part of the genre or if its a traumatic reaction, but it killed any sense of tension I had for the story so far.
To be fair, it might have been the narrator, who had a flat voice and seemed to flat out refuse to change his voice and reactions to the rest of the cast, makijg it seem he was talking to himself than anything else.
Its a shame, because it came very recommmended but its so meh and so impatient with its setting that it just both bore me and confuse me.
