This was a very reflective story. Wharton masterfully used a “love” triangle between a man and two very different women to explore the progression of (New York or American) society throughout a lifetime. It was slow at times, but the pace is somewhat necessary to transport the reader to Old New York. While it may not be my favorite book, it does a fantastic job of exploring numerous themes that make up the complexities of life that may only be appreciated in retrospect.
