There are some beautiful moments in this book and some brilliantly taut writing. On the whole, though, I felt the interweaving narratives didn’t hang together as well as they could have and the author tried to cover too many characters’ perspectives. It would’ve been better, in my opinion, to focus on fewer characters and develop them further. I ended up not caring about most of them and parts of the novel were quite repetitive. One of the best opening chapters to a novel I’ve read, though.
