The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins

4.0

Despite this book having taken me a ridiculous amount of time to read that should have no bearing on your decision to read it. This is a typical victorian sensationalist novel. It is long, it is overly descriptive of mundane events, and the plot and events are highly unlikely ever to happen to anyone ever. HOWEVER, despite all of this it is a greatly enjoyable read. The characters are well formed, relatable and often likeable, it is incredibly well written and often exciting to read. Are there dull moments? Yes. Is it unrealistic? Also yes. Could it have used some major editing? Yes, 500 pages allows for too much description. But this in no way takes away from the positive aspects of this well written novel if you have the patience to power through.

A good, homey read. Would read again.
