Get Good with Money: Ten Simple Steps to Becoming Financially Whole by Tiffany Aliche

informative

3.5

I follow the author on instagram and it is rare to find a finance book written by a Black author. It's easy to read, informative, and comprehensive. I liked most how this book was organized with each of the 10 steps getting their own chapter (each step = 10% x 10 chapters = 100% financially whole). Chapters like  “how to pay off your student loans,” “how to build up your net worth,” and “how to start investing effectively.”

No matter what budgetting/finance book I pick up, there is always something that bothers me. This one includes the standard advice of increasing your wealth by asking for a raise at work or starting a side hustle (ie. get a 2nd job!!!) I really dislike this advice because it is so impractical for most of us. There is also a whole chapter that is useless for me centered on various insurances you should know about and invest in.

Still I'm glad I read it but would caution those that get bothered by certain standard finance talking points. Just skip around to the chapters that most fit your needs and interests. I will be looking at the worksheets at the back of the book though just to reinforce the things I learned.
