The Dark Goodbye, Vol. 1 by Frank Marraffino, Drew Rausch

2.0

This relied heavily on The Big Sleep (e.g. Bogart) with a very strong Lovecraft-ian twist. It's a lot darker than I'm used to, but I had just watched the movie and was disappointed (not amused) by how much of the story was "ripped off" (even with all the twists). The drawings and plot were also very hard to follow. The style was mood-setting (and I liked that), but when you're telling a story through pictures, the pictures really should be "legible" enough to carry the story. While this is the first of a series (it does "end", so the storyline seems to be mostly independent for each installment), I highly doubt I'll read the second one.
