The Stand by Stephen King

4.0

Book Rating: 8/10:

A very enjoyable read that was hard to put down. I loved all the characters in this book whether they were good, bad, or indifferent. Although I felt Frannie lacked any real depth and quite often annoyed me. I wasn't a fan of the time jumps. There were two in total. One of them wasn't so bad as Frannie's diary entries filled those gaps. But Larry’s groups time jump felt like I had missed out some pages and I wished King had written another 100 pages to explain Lucy’s dislike for Nadine and the arrival of the Judge and that we got to know that character better than we did. Without going into spoilers I wasn't a fan of the ending at all. While I get what King was going for I just didn't believe he executed it well. I also believe the Tom and Stu stuff near the end could have been cut from the book. Talking about Tom. What a fantastic character. I loved him. He was brilliant. Such an innocent soul with the courage of a lion. This being the fourth Stephen King novel that I have read Tom is one of my favourite Stephen King characters.

While I have mentioned all the faults I have with this book. I still really enjoyed it. Part One: The Circle Opens is some of the best fiction I have ever read. I'm enjoying my journey through Stephen Kings novels.
