Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

4.5 stars

“That’s why. It’s because we live in a beauty-obsessed society where the most important thing a woman can do is make herself attractive to men.”

Big Little Lies starts off with a gripping intro, that there has been a death at the school during the Trivia Night, but we are not told who was the victim and the murderer until the end of the story.

This was the first time I have read from this author and I was COMPLETELY surprised at just how much I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author's prose is quick, witty and so real. Although I was worried in the beginning (as it fits into chick-lit genre which I dont really like) that it was another book about privileged upper class, rich and sassy women, I soon realized I was quite wrong. I especially enjoyed the 3 different POV of Madeline, Celeste and Jane. Their stories were so compelling and intricate on their own.

There were plot twists that TOTALLY shocked me (Like jaw-dropped-ohgodIdidnotseeemcoming-kind of shock) and sometimes I just had these chills run through me at some of the reveals. Albeit 'chick lit' in some ways, I find her writing smart, witty and engaging - and surprisingly deep as this book also touches on serious and real issues on domestic abuse, bullying, school politics, friendship and poor parenting.

Loved it. Loved it. I absolutely loved this book!
