The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor by Jake Tapper

4.0

A detailed and heartbreaking account of what happens when an obviously bad plan by a career officer meets with military inertia. Tapper does a great job of bringing the personalities and conflicts of the soldiers who both made it back and did not. If you can handle a good amount of military jargon and can visualize basic military strategy without staring at the map--and can handle graphic details of soldiers dying--I highly recommend this book if you want to better understand the complications of the Afghanistan strategy.
