I read this book when it first came out as My Love Lies Bleeding, I was obsessed back then, however never got around to finishing the series.
I tried to read it all again in 2019/2020 when I got back into reading but again never finished it.
Coming back years later, well into my secondary reading journey and it is so different from what I remember.
It is definitely just as good, but my interpretation of the characters has definitely changed. I feel like I am able to read more closely now in comparison to how I initially read it. There are definitely things about this read that I feel differently about - Lucy and Nicholas's relationship for one feels like it comes a bit out of left field. Don't get me wrong I am still supportive and loved reading it, but it feels like it comes up so quickly and isn't developed or thought about outside of the occasional kiss. Again, this is something I understand there is a lot more going on in this book than a simple romance, and they're both just teens.
Still, I really enjoyed reading this again, once I got past the slower pace of the first few chapters I found myself flying through it, even knowing the outcome and having a vague understanding of how it would come about I was still enthralled.
This is a fantastic world with multiple variations of what a vampire is in terms of "tribe" and "type" dependent on how they are turned. It's a brilliant concept. I can't wait to read more.
