The Day Of The Locust by Nathanael West

4.0

This is a stark, bleak, nasty book - nasty in the way only American minimalism can be, where every person is an asshole, there is no moral reckoning, and it's all because the American landscape itself is poisoned. Loved it, even if it was a little weird that the main character was called "Homer Simpson" (Groening based himself on this novel, but his influence radiates backwards in time)
