ashley and drew own my heart. their story was so beautiful, as indivitual by themselves as a couple.
ashley grieving and sorrow was a very realistic portrait of what is to take care a terminal ill relative, to learn how to lose it before they go and how to hold on every second not wanting to let go. the way she found drew, her guilt but also her desire was so well written, done in a beautiful, real and honest way. her journey will always be so close to my heart.
drew, my sweet man. he was the perfect book boyfriend. selfless, respectful, with morals and ethics, funny, smart, well versed and outspoke. love your mother as his mother, your brothers as his brothers and treat you as the gift you are, like you were perfectly custom made for him. for him to love, to respect, to value and to worship. he was by ashley side from day one, being exactly what she (and her family) needed, holding tight through the rough times and never letting her second guessing. he was always there, to help and support. he destroyed the foundation of all of ashleys fears with actions and words, with love and understanding, never expecting anything from her beside letting him love her (which can count as his only flaw). AND HE WROTE HER POETRY.
as for the winston family, i felt very identified with ashley and her emotions regarding her family, how her experience as a child shaped her expectations for adulthood and how despite having achieved them, it is not the same as being at home. when her mother said that she lived through her and maybe thats why she kept her separated from her brothers, it is a bullet to the heart, and how her brothers let her leave to grow up but as billy (so excited for your book baby) said, it is not leaving but indifference, and how in the midst of grief, they are one step closer to having a healthy relationship. family interactions are not perfect, especially between siblings and even more so when there are many of them, however in the end it is clear that everyone wants to love and forgive each other, and i am very excited to see in the next books how their journey of forgiveness and love ends.
writing wise, it is great book. it develops harmoniously, it has a good plot that keeps you interested in the story, it shows that the author did her research work well. it is emotional, it warms your heart and stays with you. it was a beautiful experience.
