This book was a wild ride. By the time I reached it on my TBR pile, I had completely forgotten the premise and was totally blindsided by the plot. That being said, this is a great gory post apocalyptic read. An insightful commentary on current issues facing the queer and especially trans community in the world today, but dialed up to 100 in a world where pleasantries and saving face don’t exist. TERFs run rampant and the rich do as they please with no hint of accountability. Like many other reviews said, it is very sexually explicit and full of graphic violence. The sexual content seems focused towards the beginning, so if you can get through the first third of the book, it tapers off as events progress. If that’s not your cup of tea, give this one a skip.

I greatly enjoyed the gossip about what happened to celebrities in the apocalypse and the gratifying end to a certain public figure. There’s nothing like fantasy literary justice for a previously beloved author with a fatal flaw.

My main problem was the structure, it felt hard to follow the various POV shifts with so many characters and conflicting interests. I wish it had focused on one or two characters in order to better follow their inner development.
