Empire of the Sun by J.G. Ballard

3.0

This is a strange one. Ballard as realism instead of weird farce. Ballard as a straight man instead of convoluted science fiction. A Booker Prize nomination for this novel. Semi-autobiography. Alas it was good but not great. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed other novels of his and place some of those among my favorites of all time. I guess I just like the absurd that is his usual bent. This one wasn’t bad but certainly wasn’t one of my favorites.
