Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan

dark emotional reflective sad medium-paced

4.5

I did try my best not to cry and managed to do so up until I got to the afterword.

Beautifully written, reminding me in some way of Steinbeck with a simple prose that offers so much to the reader. Incredibly heartbreaking and sad with a hopeful undertone which is, I guess, an Irish thing. It's incredible how many atrocities were committed by the Catholic Church, and we don't even know about all of them.

I will be thinking about this for a while. And I'm already looking for what to read next from Claire Keegan.
