The Better Sister by Alafair Burke

3.0

Domestic thriller about a successful magazine editor (Chloe) whose husband is murdered. She was his second wife: he was previously married to her sister and they have full custody of his son from that marriage. While Chloe is an initial suspect the police quickly turn to her 16 year old stepson Ethan. The majority of the book is about the trial and our seesawing suspicions about who is the truly guilty individual (there are a few possibles).

It started really well and did just enough to keep me invested till the end, but ultimately I didn't particularly care for this one. I didn't feel any empathy for any of the characters and the very final twist felt unnecessarily silly.
