It's fine, but I wished this would've been a coming of age book rather than a romance one. I found Coley&Sonya's relationship, although truthful for many young sapphic experiences, unhealthy.
And so, I was really more invested in the second half of the book when Coley was building her place in the city and making amend with her father (although I wished her relationship with her father was developed in the first half as well).
I also hoped for Coley and Sonya to resolve their conflict at the end of the book BUT stayed together only as friends.
I wasn't a fan of the writing either, but it's Hayley's debut novel, so that makes sense.
Over all not terrible, I can see the hype, but not for me.
