This was a really good standalone novel. It is dark, it is gritty and it is complex enough to tug at your heartstrings, especially in the end. Being trapped in a VR game our main character does not only have to find a way to beat the game but also has to find out why he is there in the first place. I love the interwoven way in which the two storylines progress. It is darker than Carl and not as witty. But the more serious approach fit this novel perfectly. Highly recommend.
