Leave the World Behind

Calling a book overwritten almost always feels pretentious rather than an actual commentary, but if ever there was an overwritten book, this is it. Truly very little happens, either as plot events or in substantive character building. I was intrigued at times, but then...nothing much came of it. All a very distanced, mostly vague narrative, featuring highlights such as: A noise that noised noisily, some of the most unnecessary descriptions of penises, and also the most unsexy sex scenes I’ve perhaps ever read. From a penis doing a “sun salutation” to 2.5 pages describing a noise that seems to be an explosion but is mostly just a “confirmation.” Like...what? Suspense was severely dampened by the overwrought prose that kept the reader far from caring about the characters, or even what ultimately rely (may?) happen to them. I dunno, this one lost me...
