The Shadowhunter's Codex by Joshua Lewis, Cassandra Clare

3.5

This was super fun, but it wasn’t really interesting enough to consistently keep my attention. I loved the annotations.

-----

" 'Shadowhunter' is not what you do; it is who you are. Every aspect of your life will change to accommodate the holy assignment you have been chosen for.”

“Simon, you don’t have to make pretend fangs with your fingers. You have actual fangs.”

“Shadowhunters are concerned they are no longer haughty and condescending enough—have sought you out to add a much needed boost of haughty condescension.”

“Beginner: Ability to pass as a mundane in a typical public scenario (’driving a car’, ‘shopping for food,’ etc.). Please see Mundanes Do the Darnedest Things, 1988 edition, in you local institute library, for suggestions.”

“…sensitive to being harmed by frostbite, compulsive need to count individual grains of spilled rice, overweening pride.”

“A handy tip: When angels say ‘be not afraid,’ you should be afraid. Also, as I said earlier, we have to memorize angel names because Jonathan Shadowhunter wanted us to have to memorize angel names.”
