Under the Never Sky
by Veronica Rossi
Why is EVERYONE RAVING about how good this book was? I don't see the significance or ANYTHING special about it.
Over-rated? Very. People are saying "Oh Perry is so hot" or "this story is brilliant!
But Under the Never Sky did not satisfy me. It did not entertain me. And I most certainly had no feelings toward Perry, let alone think he was "hot".
I must be missing something. Maybe I unintentionally skipped a large portion of the book?
I felt so disconnected from everything. I was sitting there, forcing myself to finish, yawning, and wondering why I bothered with this book. I was emotionless the whole. damn. time.
The idea is an okay one. Savage meets Dweller. They fall in love. Yada yada yada. But the problem was, I didn't feel any of their love. It didn't feel real, to me. One second Perry despises Aria, but when she gets her period, he sees her in a whole 'nother light. I have never heard of a guy who is turned on when a girl gets her period. That's a little odd.
I have a major problem with the world-building. I mean, come on, if you are going to write a dystopian novel, it is SO IMPORTANT to do at least some world-building. In Under the Never Sky, there was none. Nada.
I liked Roar, though. He really brightened up the book.
I actually got the second book from the library at the same time I got Under the Never Sky, but after I finished this one, I had absolutely no motivation to continue the series. I read the first chapter of Under the Ever Night, but then I was like, "Screw this, I have other books to read."
There was not anything I particularly hated with all my heart in this book. It was just that everything was so meh. Very mediocre, and not something that I will remember. Maybe one day I will appreciate this book, but for now, I am staying away from this series.
