Revelation by C.J. Sansom

5.0

This one has an Angels & Demons / Seven vibe as it follows the serial murders based on pasages from the bible. This is one that had a double level of intrigue as we were desperately trying to find out both who is committing the crimes and why. This book focuses a lot on mental health. Once again Sansom manages to write about the stigma around mental health in the time period and still making his contemporary views known to the reader. Sansom is masterful at making a modern audience relate to his protagonists while not making them appear out of place in the story's setting. We see a variety of people with different mental health conditions and we also see the characters we've followed all along tackle their own issues. I also really appreciated the way this book tackled the medical beliefs of the time period and the problems with the institutions that fought to stifle medical advancement for the sake of their own prestige. As ever I recommend finding a comprehensive list of all the trigger warnings in this book.
