Batman: Arkham Asylum - A Serious House on Serious Earth by Grant Morrison

2.0

This is the very definition of trying too hard. The art is ugly and bizarre, the panels are too hard to read and every second this graphic novel is screaming to the reader, "BE DISTURBED!" It's hard to be disturbed by the uglyness of the asylum when the entire story is ugly. It is so overwhelming as to take away the effect of any of it. If it was meant to be campy and enjoyably over the top that would be different, but going into this expecting something serious and getting psuedo-psychology and over the top weirdness ruined this for me. It was an awful experience and a stomach churning one (and there is a difference between being deeply affected physically and emotionally by a work of art and having a crummy story and un-creative art make you nauseous.)
