Medea by Rachel Cusk

4.0

let me just preface this by saying i’m not an ancient greek girlie, but i AM a rachel cusk girlie. even without much background knowledge about the original text, i still greatly enjoyed this. cusk modernizes the story of jason leaving medea for a younger woman with her always razor-sharp insights into marriage, motherhood, and gender roles. i was really impressed by the way cusk altered the ending a bit as well, it was a super harrowing look at the way the breakdown of jason and medea’s relationship affected their children. this was a super quick read. there are a lot of back and forth, overlapping conversations that were a bit difficult to follow on the page, but i can see how well they would work on stage. so fun to read cusk in a new form!!
