Heart of Flame is the conclusion to The Fires of Aileryan duology which started with Shadow of Fire. This book was perfect in every way. I was torn between racing through it and not wanting it to end because I didn’t want to leave this world that Kate has built.
Heart of Flame picks up right where Shadow of Fire left off. I don’t want to give too much away as it will spoil Shadow of Fire. Laeli, the Fae Princess and Thalion were my absolute favourites and I loved the way Kate developed their relationship in book 2. They did threaten to take over and dominate this book (which I would not have minded) and you can tell by the writing that Kate loved to write these characters, full of snippy comments, witty banter and love. Laeli and Thalion must struggle to find a way forward for each of their people that does not result in the destruction of both. Ash, Jarlath, Fox and Senan must also battle their own demons or die trying.
Kate has written an in depth world, full of well developed and rich characters. The writing is an absolute delight to read. The multiple POVs work well and I liked that we spent time with each of them, whether they were together or apart.
I am very sad to leave this world but looking forward to picking up the next book from @kate.schumacher.writer
