The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

5.0

Oh yeah, this book deserves the accolades heaped upon it. It's timely, it's both a beautiful window and a mirror for its readers of all genders, races, ages and socio-economic backgrounds. It's beautiful in it's specificity to Starr and her family while discussing such a big issue as racism and police violence. The dialogue is very real and present, her characters are fully fleshed out (for the most part, the boyfriend could have used a little more) and she takes care not to make things easy or simple for her readers. I would love to see more from this author, I would love to see this be required reading for everyone.
