Exquisite! the vivid emotions of the main character, whose imperfect heroism is compelling and relatable, makes the elaborate science driving the plot even more captivating. The joy of discovery amidst despair is conveyed very beautifully.
I really appreciated how the ‘against all odds’ ending characteristic of this author was subverted a little in this book. Its still a happy ending, but the MC makes several big, risky sacrifices, including completely sacrificing his original desire to return home, even if he still gets to live happily out of the deal. You get the warm fuzzy feelings and the narrative arc satisfaction!
