In the fifth installment of The Dark Tower series, the reader finds Roland and his Ka-tet being summoned to a town called Calla Bryn Sturgis, where the town is preparing for a terrifying cyclic event where wolves, or things disguised as wolves, come to the town and kidnap every child who is a twin and robs them of their vitality. The elders of the town ask Roland and his group for protection. Susannah, is among this group, but she discovers that she engaged in a personal fight over her body, which is seg way to the sixth installment of the series. This was a bulky novel, and it could have been cut down, but the epic is still intriguing enough to continue.
