Lord of Chaos
by Robert Jordan
Obviously this book took me much longer to read than any of the other books in the series so it wasn't my favorite but I think part of why it took me so long to read had more to do with my general burnout on Wheel of Time and less to do with the quality of the book although I do think that the first half of the book was pretty slow. Moraine was one of my favorite characters in the book and Lanfere was by far my favorite villain in the series so losing both of them at the end of book 5 was terrible for this book. I felt kind of lost without the two of them and was left wondering what the point was for a while. I was also sad that Egianin just disappeared at the start of this book. I was really digging her in book 5 and was hoping she would become a main character but we never even got to find out where she went.
Despite the rough start/first half this book really did pick up for me in the second half. Egwene was one of the most exciting characters in this book. Her using the dream world to travel back to Salidar and being made new Armilyn Seat was so exciting and I loved the ceremonies that ordained her. I can't wait to watch her become more powerful. I also loved watching Nyneave in this book and the fact that she learned how to heal people who have been cut off from the one power was so exciting! Matt had some fun stuff in this book although I'm not as high on him as I used to be. Rand was by far my favorite character in this book and watching his storyline was so exciting. It feels like he is juggling so many things trying to keep control of all the placed he's taken control of was so exciting. I also loved that he's going insane and watching him learn to interact with Lewis Therin was really entertaining and I can't wait to see where that leads. There was so much political drama in this book and even though a lot of it is going over my head I really enjoyed it. I also loved the interactions between Min and Rand in this book. The final battle in this book was absolutely spectacular and blew me away. It was a bit short and I feel like that past couple books have had multiple climaxes and all of their climaxes lasted longer than this one. It was still fantastic while it lasted just not quite as long as I had hoped.
Overall this was another really great book. This series is quickly becoming one of my favorite series of all time and I can't wait to continue reading it. I really hope that Brandon Sanderson is as good at writing climaxes as Robert Jordan because if he is the final battle in book 14 is going to be unbelievably good.
