The Bennet Women
by Eden Appiah-Kubi
I thoroughly enjoyed this modern & inclusive retelling of Pride and Prejudice! It felt familiar yet fresh, with characters that were loosely modeled after the OG Elizabeth & Darcy, while still having their own unique character traits. Our leading lady, EJ, is still finding her path as an engineer, and the reader gets to tag along as she learns a few things about herself and her tunnel vision. At the same time, she meets grumpy Will who is working through his own issues after a nasty breakup. From this rocky soil and after misunderstandings and assumptions are overcome, they make an unexpected connection. I loved the setting, the characters, and the emphasis on girl power and friendship. This is a fun book that tackles tricky topics with a serious yet light hand. A very impressive debut novel from Eden Appiah-Kubi!
