emylisis 's review for:
Youngblood
by Sasha Laurens
This is a spoiler-y review!
Things I loved:
-the protagonist is complex and interesting, I loved that she was the one to start the events of the book through her own actions
-the vampire lore was interesting and unique, the "youngblood" and "fangmaker" concepts were done well
-the mystery elements were fun to read and managed to get me a couple of times with some good twists
Things I didn't love:
-the chemistry between the MC and LI just isn't there, their interactions were unfortunately a bit flat to read
-the LI was SO BORING, I think she suffered a bit from the author wanting her to be free from potential reader criticism. All the other elite vampire children are homophobic, but not her even though she comes from the same background! all the other elite vampire children drink human blood for fun, but not her because she innately understands drinking from humans is wrong! even the big mistake that the haunts her and the LI turns out to not be her fault and was just a misunderstanding. I honestly found the boring white guy side character who actually DID represent an elite vampire who had to change his worldview and morals more interesting, and I wish his arc could have gone to one of our main two girls instead of being wasted on him.
Ultimately it was a fun read but I will not be re-reading because the relationship was so uninteresting and the characters were not allowed to be flawed
