I have definitely started 2024 off on a high! Though I did start this book last year, I really felt the full brunt of it over the last few days. The book follows Ellie who after being fired from her dream job is working the worst job possible in a hipster café in Portland, days away from not having enough money to pay her rent, and her mum is only making contact with her to leech money off of her. But when she is turned down from receiving a promotion at her barista job, the site owner offers her a deal - pretend to be his temporary wife in return for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Down on her luck and drunk Ellie agrees, until upon spending Christmas at his very rich family's lodge does she realise that his sister is the person she spent a dream day with last Christmas and is who she has been pining over ever since.
I loved every aspect of this book - I loved Andrew's heartwarming family, especially the hilarious grandmas, the flashbacks told through Ellie's online cartoon series, the tropes (only one bed, am I right?), the love trapezoid (surely it's just a square??) and of course, the lovely Jack. I have never swooned over a book character before. Maybe it's because I don't read enough butch/femme books but it was so refreshing reading about a butch love interest, especially as someone who loves a butch! Jack is single-handedly the hottest book character ever written, so thank you for that Alison Cochrun! I also really loved Meredith and Ari, Ellie's best friends, and their hilarious and supportive friendship. And Katherine.....I could treat you right!!!!
This was seriously one of the best sapphic romance novels, and especially Christmas sapphic romance novels I've ever read and if you catch me re-reading this again at the end of the year...no you don't! Also, please Alison Cochrun, I'm begging you...PLEASE write a little epilogue novella I need to seeAndrew and Dylan's eventual wedding with everyone re-united !
