The Memory of Us by Camille Di Maio

**Very minor spoilers**

Julianne leaves everything she knows. Twice. What would you do for love? Set in England during WWII and it's aftermath, follow the turbulent love story of Julianne Westcott and Kyle McCarthy. It's a love story reminiscent of The Notebook, with a girl from a well to-do family and a boy from the wrong side of the tracks, but with so much more content, feeling, heartbreak and history, even religion. Julianne knows when she first lays her eyes on Kyle while he is kindly guiding her twin brother Charles that there is something about him. She is soon making excuses to visit her brother and falling for this boy who has promised himself to the Catholic faith. When she learns this about him, she tries to keep her distance, but true love always finds a way, though not without it's obstacles- He in seminary, pressure from her parents about marrying the right kind of man. Eventually though, they come together. I think my favorite part is when he says, "...I could never be fully at peace, until I was with you. YOU are my vocation. I was made to love you, protect you, through the good and bad...". Swoon.

Then the war comes and changes everything. You've heard the saying "If you love someone, set them free". I ask again, what would you do for love? This is a beautiful novel that will make your heart ache. You must read it. Just don't forget the tissues.
