Half-Blood by Jaye L. Knight

I appreciated the Author's Note at the beginning, stating that the story is meant to be read after already knowing some of Jace's story, and that if this is the reader's introduction to the Ilyon Chronicles they should know that Jace's full story is meant to display hope. This book has many depressing moments, and if it were my introduction to the Ilyon Chronicles and that Author's Note wasn't there, I might not have finished it just because of the hopelessness of this poor slave's life.
However, since I've already read books 1 & 2 and I already love Jace, I loved this look into his backstory and how he came out of a life of slavery. Jace's story gives me all the feels, and I'm excited to continue the series and quite happy to have this book on my shelf as well.
