The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake

3.0

This book felt really disconnected for me until the final couple chapters. At first I just thought I didn’t like the author’s writing style, but ultimately I realized the book was lacking fluid plot and character motivation because of what we find out at the end. Hiding what makes the book part of a trilogy until the end caused a lot of disjointed character development and lack of congruent world building for me. It was still fun to read though!

That being said, I’m really looking forward to where the next two books go now that I know the big reveal. I think sometimes with fantasy, the vast and creative world built inside the author’s head has a hard time fitting into and filling a first book, which can leave the reader ambling through, not knowing which pieces matter because so much of it feels unnecessary and jumbled. Hoping my review of the second book is much more positive!
