My Ántonia
by Willa Cather
emotional
hopeful
reflective
slow-paced
My Ántonia is gorgeously written but dreadfully dull. I struggled to feel invested in any of the characters, and the setting did not interest me. I was also frustrated at how Jim's feelings for Ántonia swing from adoration to irritation to contempt to fondness in the span of mere pages. I assume this is supposed to be representative of how complex relationships can be, but it came across silly and unrealistic.
