Mark Frosh & David Lynch own this ENTIRE ass oh honey, OH ANGELO...
(in terms of the inconsistencies with the show and with stuff that's already happened on the Return, I definitely think more is happening than Frost being careless or retconning his show, especially when some of the most egregious rewritings (EVERYTHING about Big Ed, Norma, Nadine, and Hank's fucked up relationship history) change information from episodes that Frost himself wrote. Time will tell if this is a brilliant bait-and-switch or a clumsy, non-canon waste of time. And yes I have a theory about why information would be wrong here but so far all my 2017 Twin Peaks theories have been either totally off-mark or missing a vital piece of info so I'm just gonna go ahead and trust Mark 4 the time being.)
I also wanna actually take the time and praise Mark Frost for his ability to jump into his characters' voices. He's spent quite a bit of time with them & so most of them feel so unique and true. (It's incredibly easy to guess who The Archivist is just because of how well Frost replicates that character's diction.) Occasionally Hawk or Audrey would write something that didn't sound like them but girlfriend nailed it, mostly.
