Anya and the Dragon by Sofiya Pasternack

There's a lot to love in this fantasy story with high personal stakes. One of the main selling points for me was the Jewish rep; I'd never seen a middle grade historical-fantasy story told from the perspective of a Jewish character. That really hit home for me, and I very much enjoyed the organic inclusion of Shabbat, plus other Jewish holidays and customs, in a story that technically focused outward on non-Jewish plot components. I'll be interested to see what adventures the second book in this series takes intrepid main character Anya on.
