saralaughs 's review for:
Summer of Night
by Dan Simmons
This was a looooooooong book that I think could have been cut into 1/3 its original length. The author seemed more interested in writing little vignettes of his childhood than the "horror" story that was the actual tale. It wasn't poorly written, but it was as if there were two completely different stories competing for page space and toward the end, I started skipping the boyhood tales to get the book over with; it just dragged on that long. I was also annoyed by the not-so-subtle attempt at the very end by the author to insinuate that he was one of the characters, this was his story, and it was non-fiction. Too late for that, my friend.
All in all, not a horrible book but I'd never recommend it to anyone else.
