I will start by saying I went into this not knowing it was the first of three in a trilogy.
I thought the end didn’t seem like an end but then there was an add on about how the story continues in two more books.
That being said, some of the horror elements worked really well for me. The
scene with the spiders and Will’s body being found in particular.
In general, though, I didn’t enjoy the narrator’s voice. I felt like it was far too formal in a way that it didn’t need to be, especially when it was too similar to Emily’s style in her diary, which made more sense as that was from the 1800s. I did like how different parts layered together as the mysteries unfolded, but some of the conflicts seem to resolve way too quickly or have no weight on the story at all.  I might try the sequel just to see how it plays out, but it’s not at the top of my list.
