“A small part of me wants to let Nick into my life. The stronger part of me can’t mix business with pleasure.”

The Pilot was the pick of an indie bookclub I take part in on Instagram. Without it, I wouldn’t have read it, as I don’t read military romance, nor do I read suspense. I’m glad I read this book, I read it in one go.
The writing is very dynamic, and the story balanced between the military, the relationship, the daily life and the suspense. It was really the perfect equilibrium for me, as I am a complete newbie in this subgenre.
At first, both Nick and Avery made it difficult for me to love them, but as the story unfolded, I completely rooted for them, getting attached to them while they got attached to each other. I adored that, as much as I loved how badass are all the women in the book. That group of friends is a true strength, which isn’t a surprise as they are the red line of the whole series.
Some parts were so anchored into reality that I had the feeling I was there. Sometimes, though, the story isn’t very realistic BUT I got carried away and didn’t mind, because (thanks) of the flow. I just had a great time with their adventures, and that’s all I ask to a book. The characters are all very human and believable. One of my favourite points was how Avery is affected by her grief and how it makes her react, how she evolves around that. I loved the role of Jag (her dog) and all the interactions that involve him during the whole story.
This book was a great surprise for me and I’m once again grateful for that book club which picks books I wouldn’t have by myself. That would have been my loss because it was a truly nice read and I can’t wait to read the other books in the series.
