I'll have to admit my bias in advance that I've enjoyed every book of Buehlman's book I've read to date.
But this is an excellently well written fantasy novel. The prose is excellent and the dialog is top notch.
He manages to world build without tedious exposition and to create a gritty world without being "edgy." It's also obviously a complex world but the narrative wasn't cluttered with extraneous POV characters.
If the author ever wants to DM some homebrew DnD, then I call dibs on a spot at the table, but I suppose I'll have to settle for more books in this series
As an aside, I listened to this as an audiobook and was actually surprised by how well Buehlman did the accents.
