Bitter by Akwaeke Emezi
5.0
Easily another 5 star read from Akwaeke Emezi.
We revisit the city of Lucille; but this time, during the revolution which is referenced in Pet.
We meet a seventeen year old Bitter, and follow her through her experiences at Eucalyptus; a school for young, talented people without blood families.
We learn how Bitter’s art began, and also her relationship with Aloe.
This book echoes todays world in a painful, necessary way. The reflections on gun violence, race-motivated crimes and the religious models of angels as saviours - or are they?
Further cementing Akwaeke Emezi as one of my favourite authors which I’ve found in 2022.
